SO, WE PETITION OUR PRESIDENT, CONGRESS AND ALL OUR ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES TO END OUR CHILDREN'S LIVING THEIR LIVES OF POVERTY AND WE PLEDGE NEVER AGAIN TO CAST A VOTE FOR ANY REPRESENTATIVE WHO DOES NOT ACTIVELY PROMOTE LEGISLATION TO END OUR CHILDREN'S LIVING THESE LIVES OF POVERTY!
Why is this important?
Child poverty has dire consequences.
Nearly all social problems in United States are heavily correlated with child poverty.
Children who grow up in poverty are less healthy, trail in emotional and intellectual development, are more likely to drop out of high school and are less likely to find steady work as adults*. Poor children also are likely to become the poor parents
of the future.
*A high school dropout costs taxpayers as much as $288,000, according to the research organization The Policy Group for Florida’s Families and Children.
According to the National Center for Children in Poverty, in the United States, a child is born into poverty every 32 seconds and 21 percent of children in the U.S. live in households with income below the federal poverty level.
It is outrageous that the richest country in the world tolerates children living in poverty in America today.
This movement believes that ending child poverty in the United States must be the highest priority of government. The economic future of our country and the stability of the communities we live in depend on achieving this goal. The objective of citizen-led, non-partisan, non-profit Movement To Petition The End of Our Children’s Lives of Poverty is to inform our political, business and civic leaders, and the parents and people of this city, about this issue, build support for measures that will end child poverty and give children the best chance to be successful.
We call upon the President and Congress to make ending child poverty their highest priority so that children do not live in poverty in America. I will only vote for those who do so.
