The NC DMV Needs a Policy for Gender Change on Licenses
Help persuade North Carolina’s DMV to create a policy for changing gender on licenses since no policy currently exists and this subjects transgender people to treatment at the discretion of clerks and managers.
Why is this important?
When I attempted to change the gender on my license in North Carolina, my proof of documentation was rejected without cause. An original document of mine was confiscated despite my protests and I received inappropriate commentary about my identity and body. Transgender people in NC are treated inconsistently at DMV offices because no policy exists detailing what documents are in fact required. My lawyer and I are crafting a letter to request that the DMV creates a policy for gender change and we need signatures to bolster the cause.
