The Non-Inaugural Ball

As winter approaches, thousands continue to suffer on the East Coast after devastating Hurricane Sandy. Let's celebrate President Obama's re-election in a socially-conscious way! So much money has already been spent by both sides in the election campaign. Think of what this money could have done if applied to education, greening our environment, or social justice! Instead of an inaugural ball for a few, President Obama could bring a real sense of awareness and urgency to climate change issues, as well as help our fellow citizens in New York and New Jersey find housing, food, and a renewed sense of security.

Why is this important?

I would like to see President Obama make a strong statement, in these difficult fiscal times, by forgoing his Inaugural Ball on January 22 (or Jan. 21?) and asking his donors to give the money to those who lost so much in Hurricane Sandy.
