The people of western North Carolina (WNC) value their postal service and demand that their services be at the same or higher level as any other major community in this country!

On November 1, 2011 the U.S. Postal Service admitted that closing massive numbers of mail processing centers will cause drastic reductions in service to the American people.

For WNC, closing the Brevard Road Processing Center will mean that first class mail currently taking one day to arrive at a nearby location will take 2 to 3 days. First class mail currently placed in a WNC residential mailbox or a post office blue box to be mailed to a nearby location in WNC will have to be trucked to Greenville SC first. There it will be processed, receive a Greenville postmark and then will be brought back up the mountain to WNC.

Weakening the postal service with longer delivery times while increasing the cost will only accelerate the decline in post office usage of first class mail. This is what the U.S. Postal Service says is causing the cuts so this could very likely cause eventual closure and/or privatization of the USPS with a very high fee to send first class mail.

Why is this important?

The people of WNC value their postal service, and demand that their services be at the same or higher level as any other major community in this country! The Brevard Processing Center in Asheville NC is currently being studied for closure which will mean that all WNC mail will be trucked to Greenville SC for processing and a postal mark.
