The Redwoods of Oregon National Monument
Our public officials should prioritize the protection of the northern-most reaches of the Coastal Redwood Trees, the Sequoia Sempervirens, that are located in the State of Oregon. These treasured, unprotected groves are all located in the National Forest on Federal land located near Brookings, Oregon, and with global warming, will become more and more valuable because of their resistance to cold climate.
Why is this important?
By saving these few remaining groves and surrounding forests, the Redwoods will finallly be given the names and protection they deserve. Trees know no borders, and these are not just the California Redwoods, but the Redwoods of Oregon and California. This area is one of the most biologically diverse regions in North America, and will connect with a 500,000 acre wilderness, protecting these ancient groves. We are seeking protection for 150,000 acres, all currently in Federal ownership.
