The Senate Must Pass a War Powers Resolution

Fifty-two senators have taken a crucial step to affirm their constitutional responsibilities over matters of war and peace, voting to advance S.J.Res.98. The work continues, and I urge you to do all you can to ensure this resolution moves forward and the Senate passes a clean version as quickly as possible.

Why is this important?

The Senate took a huge step toward blocking Trump’s war for oil in Venezuela.

This is a big deal.

This bipartisan rebuke of war is a major blow to Trump’s Venezuela plans, but we’re not done yet. In the coming days, there will be more fights and votes to get this bill across the finish line in the Senate.

Our work is cut out for us, and our advocacy can’t let up for one second. Trump has already gone on the offensive, declaring that the five Republicans who voted against endless war “should never be elected to office again.”

We need to make sure the pro-peace demands from constituents like you drown out Trump's attacks to hold the 52 senators who voted YES on Sen. Kaine’s war powers resolution in line — and possibly peel off even more Republicans along the way. Anything less than that, and we could lose.
