The U.S. House of Representatives: Demand that Representative Joe Walsh resign as Congressman of IL
Last week at a Town Hall Meeting in Elk Grove Village, Congressman Walsh claimed that Muslims are infiltrating the Chicago suburbs and are “trying to kill Americans every week”; saying they are a “real threat” that is imminent in Elk Grove, Madison, and Elgin.
Walsh went on to explain that when speaking to high school students, he reminds them that another 9/11 is inevitable and will occur in the immediate future.
This type of rhetoric is hateful and dangerous. Congressman Walsh should be ashamed of himself for inciting such hateful remarks about a population that makes up atleast 3.6% of the States' population, or 420,000 people. In the past week alone hate crimes against Muslims have been on the rise; a Muslim Mosque was burned to the ground in Joplin Missouri, shots were fired at the Muslim Education Center in Morton Grove on Friday, while 500 Muslims were praying inside; and a homemade bomb made with a 7-Up bottle filled with household chemicals was thrown at an Islamic school in Lombard on Sunday night during Ramadan prayers. These hateful comments made by a Congressman are offensive, hateful and dangerous.
Our community should be rallying and standing by their fellow Muslims in Illinois; yet instead, Representative Joe Walsh is encouraging anti-Muslim feelings throughout his constituency. These comments are not only outrageous and in clear violation of the values of our country (freedom of religion and equality) but as a member of Congress they are shameful. Representative Walsh has the absolute responsibility to protect his constiuents, all of his constiuents; including those who are Muslim! I would urge you to sign this petition in hopes that Representative Walsh understands that as a member of Congress he is accountable for the remarks he makes and should be mindful that he is not inciting hatred against a minority group in Illinois.

Why is this important?
As a young Muslim American and life long Illinoisian, I am appauled at the comments Representative Joe Walsh has made concerning Muslims living in Illinois. I am deeply concerned that his Islamophic message is inciting violence against the Muslim Community in Illinois. Representative Joe Walsh has made a commitment to protect the people of the 8th District, his comments however incite violence and hate towards Muslims and it is shameful that he is an elected official in this great state!
