Every state of the Union represents itself in the Hall of Statuary in DC by providing two statues of prominent native born citizens. One of the two North Carolina statues is Charles Brantley Aycock, a 19th century white supremacist who, in 1898 was charged with "Planned violence to suppress the African American communities." Surely this man shouldn't be representing the great state of North Carolina.
Why is this important?
I am a citizen of North Carolina and I abhor the idea that my state is represented in the US Hall of Statuary by a white supremacist.
