Timely Prosecution of Individuals That Admit to a Homicide

Criminals have the right to a timely trial. Victims and victims families should have the right to timely closure as part of their grieving process. Establish a law the requires District of Attorney's to resolve cases within a specific timeframe. For example, our case should have been resolved in <1 year. The murderer admitted to the homicide the night of the crime, case closed. Our family could have grieved and tried to move on with closure. > 3.5 years and no court date is totally unacceptable.

Why is this important?

My son's wife was killed in Fulton County by her 18 year old son. That night he admitted to setting her up, taking three days to plan the homicide, and then killing her. It has been a failure of the judicial system and a failure of the Fulton Counties District of Attorney's Office to fulfill their duties. What this leaves is the people around this case to not be able to have some type of closure. The homicide was committed in June 2009, so 3.5 years later we still do not have a court date. This is unacceptable. Our judicial system needs changed to help the victims and families of victims get a timely resolution and to put closure to the event.
