In the state of Michigan, require WreckMasters (Tow operators) to have Red/White strobe lights as a requirement on the vehicles. Amber has been proven to affect public motorists minimally whereas red has been taught in drivers training that it is a reserved color for Emergency Vehicles.
Why is this important?
I am a Wreckmaster in Michigan that has had way to many close calls with public motorists. From operating on the side of the highway to operating on city streets no one cares unless they see the 3 colors of oh crap; those colors are Red/White/Blue. I want to protect my fellow Wreckmasters not only for us as the operators but also for the loved ones and family tied to that individual.
