Train Police to Use Non-Lethal Force First

In light of the recent shooting of Laquan McDonald, as well as others shot and killed by police, a bill needs to be passed that would promote the use of non-lethal force by police. Police training programs need to change so that officers can be perceived as helpers and heroes when they respond to a call, instead of enemies of the people they serve.

Why is this important?

The training and behavior of police has grown more and more lethal and militarized over the past few decades. Too many citizens have been shot and killed by police who were trained to shoot to kill instead of using non-lethal methods to control a situation.
