Trump, NOT Taxpayers, Should Pay NYC Residence Costs
The President of the United States is provided a very stately, safe and secure place to live along with staffing, food, security and the importance of being located in Washington DC, where the business of the national government is done.
If Donald Trump chooses to reside somewhere else, then he, not the US taxpayers, should have to pay for all of the costs associated with that.
The cost of a President living somewhere other than the White House would include things like retrofitting, hardening and renovating the property and those are permanent improvements to personal property that would be retained after their time in office. On top of these costs would be the great amount of additional security personnel and equipment.
These costs would easily be in the tens of millions of dollars or more per year of completely unnecessary, wasteful spending.
These costs should not be borne by the American people, but by the person that is making a superfluous choice that is also an affront to standards and tradition.
