TRUTH IN CAMPAIGNING

I propose a law making it illegal to lie or make false statements in any campaign speech, literature, or advertising. Such lies when proven would make the perpetrator, individual, party, or committee, liable to significant fines, which would pay for corrective advertising, with any excess to go into funding for education.

Why is this important?

As my title indicates, I would like the voters to be protected against outright lies in campaign statements and advertising.
