Tucson United

Be it resolved that the City of Tucson hereby joins the people of Tucson, Arizona in their 'Tucsonans United For Honest Leadership' campaign for an amendment to the Constitution of the United States to abolish the fictions of corporate personhood and 'money equals speech' and return our democracy, our elections, and our communities back to America's human persons and thus reclaim our sovereign right to self-governance.

Why is this important?

The Arizona State Constitution, Article XIV, Section 18 states:

Under Contributions to Influence Elections or Official Action
"It shall be unlawful for any corporation, organized or doing business in this state, to make any contribution of money or anything of value for the purpose of influencing any election or official action."

The eternal struggle between right and wrong. The common right of humanity set against the divine right of kings. It is the same spirit that says, " you work and toil and earn bread and I'll eat it." No matter in what shape it comes, whether from the mouth of a king who seeks to bestride the people of his own nation and live by the fruit of their labor, or from one race of humans as an apology for enslaving another race, or a vast criminal enterprise of corporate corruption of government officials, it is all the same tyrannical principle of despotism.

Tucson is telling the nation that we oppose the fiction of "corporate personhood." Sign on and show your support! Now is the time for the Tucson City Council to unite with cities across the United States and embrace a resolution that stands up to abuses involving campaign finance and corporate lobbying of federally elected officials.
