TUSD: Rescind the Book Ban

Arizona students have the right to access to literature which enables them to think critically about their shared history and common future.

We call on you to return the banned books, from Shakespeare to Leslie Marmon Silko, to their rightful place in the classroom.

Free speech is a basic Constitutional right. Our students deserve the chance to develop thoughtful, reasoned solutions to the complex challenges facing our communities today.

Rescind the book ban and return the books to the classrooms now!

Why is this important?

Students in Tucson Unified School District recently had their books taken away as part of the state's elimination of the Mexican-American Studies program.

Books removed included works by Leslie Marmon Silko, bell hooks, Sherman Alexie, Winona LaDuke...even Thoreau and Shakespeare.

Let's call on TUSD to uphold free speech and stop preventing Arizona students from the right to think critically about their shared history, cultural identities, and complex future.
