TVA Settlement Funds must be spent in Western North Carolina
We the people of Western North Carolina formally request that TVA Settlement Funds be allocated to energy related projects in the 16 westernmost counties of North Carolina.
Why is this important?
As part of its settlement agreement over Clean Air Act violations, the Tennessee Valley Authority has agreed to provide North Carolina $11.2 million over the next five years, with the first two payments of $4.5M coming in 2013. These funds can be allocated to 14 different categories of projects, such as energy efficiency, renewable energy, carbon-dioxide reduction, and pollution mitigation; AND should be targeted towards the region most affected by the original emissions—Western North Carolina. During the recent budgeting process, these funds were moved to the N.C. Department of Agriculture and the N.C. Biofuels Center and are at risk of being spent in other parts of the state.
