As both an American Citizen and mother of two, I am appalled that migrant families who are seeking asylum in the United States from the atrocities being committed within their own countries are having their children separated from them. These children are being placed into detention centers with no parental contact and their parents have no knowledge of where their children are being held, the conditions they are being held in or whether or not their children are alive and well. ICE officials and the Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen refuses to disclose this information to members of the U.S. Congress and Senate. The United States Government, under the Trump Administration, is in breach of US Citizenship and Immigration Service Policy which states:
"To obtain asylum through the affirmative asylum process you must be physically present in the United States. You may apply for asylum status regardless of how you arrived in the United States or your current immigration status."

Children should not be used as pawns against a Xenophobic immigration policy.
