University of North Florida: Do not allow Chick-fil-A as a vendor on campus

As a campus that stands for diversity, mutual respect, and civility (as stated in the Institutional Values) the University of North Florida should not allow a company that supports anti-equality measures to open a business on campus. LGBT rights are human rights and no university should cooperate with a group that is openly against human rights. By not allowing the Chick-fil-A vendor to open on campus, the UNF community will affirm its commitment to all of its members.

Not allowing this restaurant at the University of North Florida will send a strong message that the University of North Florida stands up for the rights of all their students, faculty, and staff.

Why is this important?

Inspired by similar efforts at college campuses across the United States, this petition aims to censure Chick-fil-A's discriminatory practices against the LGBT community as well as to foster a more diverse and just campus life at the University of North Florida.

According to Student Government President, Carlo Fassi, via The Spinnaker: UNF is looking to spend $700,000.00 to renovate the current Sbarro location for a Chick-fil-A at the University of North Florida. However, the company has spoken openly against LGBT equality and consistently funded groups that seek to curb LGBT rights. In fact, Chick-fil-A has donated over $5 million dollars to anti-gay organizations between 2003 - 2010, supporting groups such as Focus On The Family, Exodus International, and the Family Research Council.
