Upper Darby Zoning Board: Vote No on Self-Storage
"In response to the anticipated proposal to the Upper Darby Zoning Board by Blue Devil Realty, LLC for a "Use Variance from Article III, Section 301 to construct a self-storage facility", we as members of the Upper Darby community ask that you reject this Use Variance. Such a business has not been demonstrated to meet a dire need of the community and does not contribute in a tangible way to the beautification or development of the community. Indeed as presented by the owner of Blue Devil Realty, LLC at a community meeting on 11/19/19, the sole intent of the Self-Storage business is to justify and/or subsidize the costs of building a restaurant on the same parcel of land. Given the recent challenges in this community with planful and citizen engaged business development; and given the lack of a clear plan for accommodating additional traffic patterns brought in by people putting items in and taking items out of self-storage; we believe that this business risks being a burden rather than a benefit. Please soundly reject said Variance Request.

As residents of Upper Darby, we believe that citizen-engaged business development will support the vibrancy that all members of our community seek. This current request is an example of a business model that embodies what many members of this community solidly and soundly reject, and fails to capture the spirit of what is required for our neighborhoods to thrive.
