Urban Sustainable Organic Food & Farming Project
We, the undersigned residents of New York City and New York State support the Urban Rebuilding Initiative’s plan to convert abandoned and unused vacant lots and space in New York City into Sustainable Urban Farms. Our communities need greater access to organic and healthy food. Locally grown produce and sustainable technology will help provide our communities with affordable fruits and vegetables. To turn vacant, abandoned and often toxic areas into Urban Farms can only help to create and healthier and safer New York City. We urge Mayor Bloomberg, the City Council and the NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development to support and assist the Urban Rebuilding Initiative in their effort to create Urban Farms in New York City. We want to be kept up to date on this issue.
Why is this important?
Food production space is so valuable these days since so many of our public spaces are losing funding and being shut down. And as organic healthy food becomes more expensive and health issues continue to rise, we work to rebuild health access to good food.
Our farms will be places built to grow affordable delicious, healthy organic food and to provide educational workshops for the communities with which we work.
Our Urban Farms will also be a source of education, training, innovation and community pride. We will utilize environmentally friendly equipment, systems and techniques.
