URBAN TREE INITIATIVE
Just like urban farming is popular lets grow our own building materials! The house should propose legislation to provide funding to local Public Works Departments to plant useful trees, trees that can eventually be cut and milled and sold to local residents for lumber.
Why is this important?
Street trees around California are reaching their lifetime limit; they are falling over, buckling sidewalks and streets causing costly fixes for municipalities that don't have the funds to repave; most are not drought tolerant. Let's encourage local officials to plant trees that can provide useful lumber, beautiful hardwood, flooring and siding and bring all the profits back to the city. Just as owning your own chickens allows you access to fresh eggs, so can buying lumber from your city give you fully sustainable access to building material without buying from a clear cut PLUS supporting your city.
