This Executive Order would recognize the Una Tribe of Mixed-Bloods within the State of Oregon as the first ever Native American MIXED-BLOOD Tribe in the United States. The tribe cannot obtain federal recognition through the Bureau of Indian Affairs because the tribe is a Mixed-Blood Tribe.
Why is this important?
The Native American Mixed-Bloods have been denied their rights to self-determination and identity for hundreds of years in the United States. Let's follow our sister-country, Canada, and recognize this Native American Mixed-Blood tribe. The tribe want NO benefits, lands, grants, or monies whatsoever; simply recognition. President Obama signed the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, thus, by denying the executive order, the Governor is going not only against the President, but the United Nations.
