Urge President Biden to stop Japan's planned toxic Fukushima water dump!

Dear President Biden,

On April 13, 2021, the Japanese government announced its plan for discharging radioactive water from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant into the sea for a period of 30 years starting the spring of 2023.

We are very concerned that the dumping of the contaminated water could adversely affect millions of lives and livelihoods in the Pacific Region, as the system and process proposed by the Japanese government cannot remove all radioactive materials. The people of the United States are not excluded from this harm, since radioactive isotopes associated with the defunct Fukushima nuclear power plant have been detected off the coast of California ever since the time of the accident in 2011.

We hereby request that you as the President of the United States Urge the Japanese government and the Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) to explore alternative safer options of long term storage at the Fukushima Daiichi or near the site to minimize the health impacts of people and all living things, as well as to protect the environment of the Pacific Ocean.

Why is this important?

Though TEPCO and the Japanese government claim they have processed the 1.28 million tons of irradiated water "enough" to begin releasing into the Pacific Ocean next spring – it is a complete fantasy to believe this is true and that there wont be dire consequences to marine life, due to bio-accumulation.

The fact is, Tritium and other radioactive isotopes are atomic, meaning they transform the very constitution of water at the atomic level, determined by the length of their half-life.

Not only will harm fall upon living things in the ocean, but also those who live near the coast, those who's livelihoods depend on fishing, those who eat seafood, and those who enjoy spending time in the water.

How it will be delivered

We will deliver the petition digitally to President Biden, with copies sent to Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm, Interior Secretary Deb Haaland, and U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Climate, John Kerry. We will likely hold an accompanying press conference. Delivery date yet to be determined.
