US Congress Ability To Raise Taxes

Anyone who has taken an oath to never raise taxes is disqualified form serving in the United States Senate or the US House of Representatives. Existing members of Congress would be disqualified immediately.

Why is this important?

Members of the United States Congress are involved with budget issues. This involves balancing revenue and spending. Budget issues cannot always be addressed by simply cutting taxes and spending. From time to time it is necessary to raise taxes, for example, during times when we go to war.

However, some members of Congress have taken oaths never to raise taxes. Their plan is to always look for spending cuts instead. There are times when it is necessary to raise taxes, for example, to make sure our country can protect ourselves, and to handle the costs of natural disasters.

This oath has caused some members of Congress to not even consider reducing oil subsidies when some oil companies are making tens of billions of dollars of profit per quarter.

Anyone who has taken an oath to never raise taxes, cannot effectively do their job.

Therefore, anyone who has taken an oath to never raise taxes, should be disqualified from Congress. This would apply to both new and existing members.
