US Forest Service Reforms: Support and Improve
To best protect our country's forests and wildlife, the new reforms proposed for the US Forest Service in 2011 should be improved with the inclusion of specific standards and guidelines for protecting the environment. Once these changes have been made the bill should then be passed as soon as possible.
Why is this important?
As students of Eastern High School in Louisville Kentucky we have recently been introduced to the devastating problems facing our national forests. After reading the book "A Walk in the Woods" by Bill Bryson it was drawn to our attention the little effort the US Forest Service was providing in solving the issues. In fact much of the funding was used inappropriately for things such as the timber industry and roads, hurting our beautiful woods. Though the Forest Service has recently improved with the "Roadless Law" we believe that our country can do much better!
