To: The Louisiana State House, The Louisiana State Senate, and Governor John Bel Edwards

VOTE NO HB 1212

I do not support HB 1212 and think as an elected official you should value the Louisiana state constitution and withhold support of this bill.

If passed it would change the state constitution and the more than 100-year-old Lawrason Act. Why change it now? Why do the citizens of the proposed St. George area deserve to be treated differently than those who incorporated in the past? Why should the whole parish have a say in St. George but not in any incorporation efforts that came before this one? Why should the whole parish get a vote on this issue when they were not included in the CATS tax vote because of city limit boundaries?

It is not your job to support agendas but to support the Constitution!

Why is this important?

State Representative Ted James filed HB 1212, which if passed, would change the state constitution and the more than 100-year-old Lawrason Act.

"All of the sudden, they want to change the rules halfway through the game," Incorporate St. George spokesman Lionel Rainey said.

HB 1212 is one of many trying to thwart the incorporation effort.

St. George supporters believe lawmakers are changing the rules and the constitution to get their own agenda across.
