Wayne Williams Deserves a New Trial
FBI records indicate someone other than Wayne B. Williams killed five of the children and also reveal that the Bureau was prepared to arrest a white male in April 1981 for 12-16 of the child murders. The majority of the victims' parents believe that Williams did not kill the children. They want the cases reviewed. We agree.
Why is this important?
On February 27, 1982, a young Atlanta man with no prior criminal record was convicted of murdering two men. Shortly thereafter, the Atlanta Police Department closed 23 homicides and attributed them to Wayne B. Williams, calling him the "Atlanta Child Murderer." Since then, evidence has surfaced suggesting that Williams did not kill either of the two men or any of the children. Research also indicates that the evidence against Williams was faulty and even fabricated (at the time, the FBI lab used faulty techniques to convict hundreds of people, according to The Washington Post).
