The war on drugs is a farce and for-profit prisons are a disgraceful scam on the American people, the result of which disproportionately affects black and brown people, who wind up incarcerated at enormous rates or dead, often at the hands of law enforcement officers. De-escalation training needs to be given to all of our police forces.
Why is this important?
We all have seen video after video, and heard story after story that have horrified us. Whether the numbers are increasing is irrelevant. The numbers, as they are, are far too high. This is unacceptable and cannot stand! For-profit prisons are exploitation at its worst. It is unbelievable that our government has allowed this to go on, and for so long.
