We need a Green New Deal focused on achieving 100% Clean Energy and Zero Emissions

We support Rep. Ocasio-Cortez' plan to draft legislation for a Green New Deal that addresses the climate crisis. The urgency of the crisis requires that we include ALL types of clean energy so we eliminate emissions sooner, rather than focusing on a subset of options, i.e. renewables. We want a Green New Deal that targets reducing emissions ASAP and eliminates the growth of natural gas, which we can only do by focusing on achieving 100% clean energy.

Why is this important?

We need legislation that adheres to science and facts and which enables us to use all possible technological means to combat climate change. We should not allow energy policies having ulterior motives (and fossil fuel bedfellows) to derail united efforts to prevent the worst impacts of climate change. Renewables (because they are intermittent) are increasingly forcing utilities to build natural gas capacity . . . defeating progress reducing emissions. Only 100% Clean Energy standards force utilities to drive down emissions. This means they must pair renewables with other types of clean energy, including hydro, geothermal and clean nuclear power. Let's shut down the RPS backdoor, that has allowed natural gas and fossil fuels to thrive at our climate's expense.

Reasons for signing

  • Climate change triggered by human activity absolutely is the most important issue we (all people of Planet Earth) now face.
  • We don't have the time to experience failure. The most cost effective and efficient way to pursue least carbon is global movement into advanced nuclear fission technologies. We need legislated incentives to join with other nations fostering advanced nuclear for energy to eliminate fossil fuels, provide baseload energy for current and future demand, and begin removal of CO2 from atmosphere and oceans. Show me some leadership.
  • I’m a physicist.
