To: Environmental Protection Agency, Sarah Fowler, and Kara Hellige, Army Corps of Engineers

We request the EPA and US Army Corps of Engineers deny the wetlands permit requested by THD

The US Army Corps of Engineers and the Environmental Protection Agency should deny the requested wetlands permit for the following reasons: (i) the Town of Mountain Village's failure to disclose to the EPA and US Army Corps of Engineers that there are 2 rare fens adjacent to the Telluride Hospital District's proposed site and (ii) the Town of Mountain Village's and Telluride Hospital District's collective failure to disclose to EPA and USACE that THD plans to destroy or seriously impact wetlands that are protected under an EPA management agreement.

There is a long history of egregious wetlands violations in the Town of Mountain Village. When you fill wetlands, you irreversibly alter the fragile ecosystem. The area in question has already been altered significantly and we ask that the EPA and the Army Corp of Engineers exercise their legal right (and obligation) to protect these wetlands.

Additionally, in light of the Town of Mountain Village's failure to disclose several material issues to the EPA and USACE, we do not trust the Town of Mountain Village to safeguard and monitor the proposed replacement wetlands.

Why is this important?

We hereby request the EPA and the Army Corps protect the remaining wetlands in Mountain Village by denying the wetlands permit requested by Telluride Hospital District.
