We stand with our sisters impacted by mountain top removal
Jeff Biggers of AlterNet.org reports: "In a dramatic action to symbolize that “[their] mountains that have been stripped of everything living on them, and in solidarity with [their] people, who are sick and dying and dead because of this practice,” [Marilyn] Mullens and a group of coalfield mothers, daughters and activists will shave their heads to call out the bald face complicity of Big Coal-bankrolled state politicians and the denial of the devastating health and human rights violations in coal mining communities."
Why is this important?
Mountain top removal is the devastating practice of removing the top of a mountain in order to access the coal beneath. The surrounding communites and ecosystems are destroyed in the process. We stand in solidarity with our sisters in Appalachia whose communities are being devastated by Mountain top removal.
