We Support Passing The STOP ONLINE PIRACY ACT

We support Stop Online Piracy Act. Many of us are creative content creators, including but not limited to music composers, software developers, visual artists, and filmmakers. All of us who sign this petition support and urge Congress to pass SOPA ( Stop Online Piracy Act ) believing this will make the internet a more morally and socially responsible entity, as well as limit or stop the illegal distribution of creative content, which will help the content creators keep and continue earning income for their creative content. CURRENTLY, file sharing site users and owners do not cooperate fully or at all with take down requests from copyright owners who report violations to them directly. We believe this law will help enforce cooperation and responsibility. We want to send a strong message that everyone who has signed this petition SUPPORTS THE 'STOP ONLINE PIRACY ACT'.

Why is this important?

The bill would allow the U.S. Department of Justice, as well as copyright holders, to seek court orders against websites accused of enabling or facilitating copyright infringement. Depending on who requests the court orders, the actions could include barring online advertising networks and payment facilitators such as PayPal from doing business with the infringing website, barring search engines from linking to such sites, and requiring Internet service providers to block access to such sites. The bill would make unauthorized streaming of copyrighted content a felony. The bill also gives immunity to Internet services that voluntarily take action against websites dedicated to infringement, while making liable for damages any copyright holder who knowingly misrepresents that a website is dedicated to infringement.
