Memphis and Shelby County are overwhelmingly Democratic. The Republican echo chamber is in full force, and Trump money is pouring in to normalize their fringe positions. Our issues need to be debated.
Why is this important?
There are two Democratic County Mayor candidates: State Senate Minority Leader Lee Harris and Shelby County Sheriff employee Sidney Chism.
Unless our candidates publicly debate issues that move our county forward, Republicans will dominate the conversation.
That means we’ll be talking about cutting education funding, arming our teachers, and who knows what other right-wing, fringe policy positions get handed down from the Trump White House.
Shelby County cannot address our most pervasive challenges without bringing Democratic policy positions to the forefront.
We need to hear where our two candidates stand before the May 1st Democratic Primary. Join us in demanding a televised Democratic Shelby County Mayoral debate.
