Welcome Home Vietnam War Vets

Victory! The creator of this petition declared the campaign a success. You can still sign the petition to show support.

To coincide with the 50th anniversary of the passing of the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution on August 10,1964, this August 10th should be commemorated in the nation's capital and every state capital as the day we finally & properly Welcome Home the Vietnam War Vets.

Why is this important?

I am 62 years old , I did not serve in the military, in fact I actively worked against the Vietnam War, and especially the draft. Unfortunately many of my generation conflated hatred of the war with hatred of the men & women who served. This injustice needs to finally be officially ended, especially at a time when many of these vets are struggling to live a life of dignity

Reasons for signing

  • When I was 20, I believed I knew everything. when the reality was, I didn't even know enough to separate political policies from the bravery of our soldiers. I am in my 60's now, and have been humbled by, and educated by life's challenges. For a long time I have wanted to say to the Vietnam Vets, I didn't understand your sacrifice then-I do now. Welcome back. And, I am so sorry that our troops and our nation had to go through that war.
  • good cause
  • I'll sign, in hopes the veterans of the recent wars based on lies won't have to endure the stigma the Vietnam Veterans had to deal with. And may still be dealing with. Why are they punished, but the war profiteers are given honors and high speaking fees?
