Why do schools not have storm shelters?
We trust schools with the safety of our children. Many have metal detectors, many now have armed guards. What will these armed guards do against mother nature when she lashes out against us? The tornado in Moore, O.K. tore through many structurally sound buildings, including schools that most people believed were safe. Many children lost their lives due to structural issues, causing them to drown in the basement because a water valve broke. Why was there not an emergency shut off for gas/water/electricity? Things we know can cause horrible damage in the event of a severe storm? Why was there not a storm shelter for these children and faculty to seek shelter? These things cost money, right? It may take a few years but with proper legislation and a community effort schools across the nation in the eye of tornados, hurricanes, even earthquakes can be safe for the ones we love and cherish most in our lives. The future of our nation. What is the life of a child worth to you? How much effort would you put into raising money for the safety of the children in your community and across the nation? Sign this petition to make the government realize that the safety of our children matters, and that storms are just as dangerous as guns and gang violence and deserves the governments attention and support.
Why is this important?
Recently many children's short lives were taken from the, during a tornado. Not because of the building collapsing, debris, or any other typical reason, but from drowning. What is the life of a child worth?
