To: Marissa Mayer, Yahoo! CEO
Why is Yahoo! censoring Martin Manley's website but OK with hard core porn?
I call upon Marissa Mayer to either: a) issue a full explanation of the Yahoo! decision to censor Martin Manley's website while her company simultaneously distributes hard core porn through its Tumblr subsidiary (i.e. it isn't enough just to say that he violated your Terms of Service) or b) reactivate Martin Manley's website immediately.
Why is this important?
I am outraged by the Yahoo! decision to turn off Martin Manley's website. Partly because of his site's potential value to those wishing to better understand and prevent suicide. And partly because, as a fellow author, I have a particular appreciation of what a labor of love it was for Martin to create what he created, hoping that it would be read by a wide audience and ultimately augment the sum total of human happiness.
Why is it, I wonder, that Yahoo! saw fit to pay $990 million to buy Tumblr and continue to make its porn available in a manner that enables the circumvention of parental controls (see link) - while censoring Manley?
