In 1920, the 19th Amendment was passed. After years of fighting for equality, women were guaranteed the right to vote, August 18th. Never recognized on the calendar as an event of progress.
Why is this important?
Beginning in the mid-19th century, several generations of woman suffrage supporters lectured, wrote, marched, lobbied, and practiced civil disobedience to achieve what many Americans considered a radical change of the Constitution. Few early supporters lived to see final victory in 1920. Slavery was abolished, Martin Luther King Jr and Winston Churchill are recognized on the calendar.. but women are still not recognized for their tireless efforts to gain the right to vote in America.
