WV Governor Tomblin: Please Take a Lesson from Colorado

Something amazing just happened in Colorado, and it's relevant for West Virginia.

On Sunday, February 23rd, a group of Colorado state health officials--the Air Quality Control Commission--passed strong clean air rules to address the increased air pollution in Colorado from the oil and gas industry. Our Governor, John Hickenlooper, brought together leaders from the industry, environmentalists, moms, and community leaders to write rules that will help keep Colorado’s air clean--while still allowing the oil and gas industry to operate and thrive in our state. Everybody wins here--Industry creates jobs and boosts the economy, Colorado’s air stays clean, reducing costly health related problems and Coloradans continue to have a state they can be proud of.

What happened in Colorado shows that working together with industry to do what’s best for the health of our communities is possible. This is critical in light of the recent chemical spills affecting West Virginia’s water. I see the people of your great state struggling, and here is a way to help.

Governor Tomblin, please reach out to Governor John Hickenlooper of Colorado, and talk to him about how he worked with industry, environmentalists, communities, and families to do what’s right for everyone. We did it! And we know you can too.

Thank you for your time and consideration,

Why is this important?

Colorado succeeded in a fight to not let corporate industry pollute our air while developing our state's natural resources. Our experience can serve as a model for other states.
