• Remove Larry Fink CEO of BlackRock from NYU board of Trustees
NYU has not divested from fossil fuels… the reason: a ceo from one of the largest fossil fuel investors sits on the board. NYU says they will divest by 2040, we know that is too little too late. We also know this cannot happen with Laurence fink, CEO of Black Rock, one of the biggest fossil fuel investors in the world, sitting on the board of trustees.

  • Stop Florida's high school menstrual period reporting rule
The Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) is about to vote on an outrageous proposal to require all female high school athletes to report detailed information about their menstrual periods to their school administrators in order to play. Florida is home to an abortion ban and a law against transgender athletes playing on public school teams. Forcing girls to share detailed menstrual information puts them in danger, full stop. Four members of the FHSAA are appointed by Governor Ron DeSantis and his education commissioner, and just two of 16 members are women. We're calling on them to reject the mandatory period reporting rule for high school athletes.

  • Help students with Autism receive the services they need
Children are being denied medically necessary services in school settings. Children with Autism also face numerous challenges and ABA therapy in school often times are denied. The fact remains that children with Autism who need ABA therapy often times go without therapy or have to complete reduced hours due to conflicts with school. ABA therapy in school can help to remove behavioral health barriers, increase social and emotional relationships and can lead to life long educational and social relationships and can also lead to reduced medical costs. Please help us to tell school board members in Colorado that these services are vital and the policies crafted should reflect the needs of our student population.

The Civil War continues to be the single most divisive event in US history. References and branding that are remnants of this destructive time in our history should be considered divisive as well.

  • Save student loan debt cancellation!
In August, the Biden administration announced an historic student debt cancellation policy, which would transform the lives of tens of millions of borrowers across the country. Despite President Biden possessing the authority to cancel student debt as per the HEROES Act, passed by Congress in 2003, right-wing MAGA Republicans have filed numerous lawsuits challenging the legality of student debt cancellation. Now, a Trump-appointed federal judge has officially blocked the cancellation program, and the Biden administration has been forced to stop accepting cancellation applications. While the case is currently being appealed to a higher court, student loan debt cancellation appears to be in jeopardy. In trying to kill this program, Republicans and their right-wing minions are trying to deny critical relief for tens of millions of families that have suffered under the crushing weight of student loan debt. This is absolutely unfathomable, and that’s why we’re demanding that they drop all litigation regarding student debt cancellation.

  • Support Mental Health Services in Texas Schools
On any given day a school social worker can help a child who is engaged in NSSI (non-suicidal self-injury) receive wrap around services, assist a child experiencing homelessness with transportation to school, clothes and free meals, give a child with anxiety tools for managing a panic attack, and help a child find their voice to combat bullying. In one school week, and even in one day, all of these situations can arise, alongside countless other complicated situations that need immediate attention. Unfortunately many school districts don't provide schools with a social worker, or they may require a social worker to work at multiple schools. Understaffing means social workers have extremely high case loads and are not able to effectively support student's needs. The TEA reported there were approximately 5,308 Texas students for every one school social worker employed in our state during the 2019-2020 school year. We need a social worker at every school and funds specifically allocated to school districts to provide mental health services. Therefore, we need an amendment to the Texas Education Code to include social work services and the Texas Education Commission to directly distribute funds to school districts for mental health services.

  • CSUSB Fall 2022 Commencement
The graduating class of 2022 at California State University, San Bernardino deserves a commencement ceremony after all their hard work and dedication. We feel that CSUSB did not try hard enough to accommodate their winter graduates, nor did they consider the students’ input or offer alternatives such as: limiting the number of guests allowed to attend, splitting up graduation ceremonies between colleges, etc. Considering the fact that CSUSB has been increasing tuition costs every year and has the finances to fund the construction of a new building every year, we feel that more could be done.

  • Michigan wants the Right to choose!
When Roe was overturned by the Supreme Court earlier this year, 50 years of constitutional, guaranteed protection for abortion care went out the window. This decision has made it even more clear that we need to do everything in our power to codify abortion into law at the state and local level. The first step is to elect unashamed, Democratic and Progressive candidates who will create or support legislation to ensure abortion rights are protected.
