A More Perfect Union Requires More Perfect People
Our political system has been hijacked. The buck stops with the people when politics and Democracy fail to do the job. Most Americans are very unhappy with the current situation. What can we do?
#1 Citizens United has got to be repealed.And mountains of political money allowed by Citizens United basically means the wealthy are in control of our nation.
#2 The imbalance of power by allowing any one party to control more seats than the other is at the core of the problem. Without a rule that requires equal numbers from both parties, the result is basically gerrymandering. Or “stacking the deck”. An imbalance of political power is in direct conflict with the concept of checks and balances. Checks and balances are supposed to PREVENT an undemocratic amount of power in any branch of government. NOT COMBINE THE POWER OF ALL 3 BRANCHES. Which is clearly what has happened. This certainly needs to be corrected.
#3 Impeachment is all but impossible to achieve. It is not a dependable remedy when serious problems arise in government. While we continue to suffer. Elected officials are not Royalty. Congress, which is currently controlled by Republicans, blocks anything they don't agree with. Progress comes to a halt. This is in direct conflict with what the Founding Fathers intended. It wasn't about centralizing power. It was about equally distributing power. Checks and balances. I ask you, how does stacking the deck in one political party's favor serve this purpose? It plainly does not. That's not a Democracy. It's a monopoly. We need to change this. There should always be equal numbers of both parties in Congress. Full stop. And when they deadlock on issues, then the people vote to break the tie. Within a reasonable period of time. Full stop. This would encourage Congress to come to some agreement, in a reasonable amount of time, before the people step in and make the decision for them. Including Impeachment. Also, it will encourage citizens to be more involved by giving them the tie breaking votes when Congress fails to reach a consensus/majority.
Why is this important?
With the enactment of Citizens United, insider trading in all branches of government, gerrymandering, never ending debates and clashes in Congress, government shutdowns, add infinitum The loss of the people's trust and faith in government is epidemic. America is in a state of political warfare since President Trump took office in 2025. Rights, freedoms and liberties are being violated or ignored regularly. The Republican takeover of all three branches of government has been an abysmal mess for America. We need reforms to prevent these things from reoccurring. I believe my suggestions are a great place to start. Change is clearly needed.
