Bring the Goose Home: A Mascot for SUNY Oswego
We are asking SUNY Oswego to consider exploring the creation of a goose as an official or recognized spirit mascot. This would not replace the Lakers name or its tradition, but would introduce a physical mascot that can represent the university at games, campus events, and student traditions.
Why is this important?
If you have spent any time at Oswego, you have seen the geese. They are hard to miss. Loud, bold, and somehow always part of everyday campus life. Right now, SUNY Oswego has a strong identity, but it does not have a physical mascot that shows up in the shared moments students remember, such as games, events, and traditions. A goose mascot would fill that gap in a way that already feels natural to this campus. Because geese are already part of student life, this idea builds on something familiar rather than introducing something artificial. It has the potential to bring more energy to campus events and give students, athletes, and alumni something visible to connect with. It is a simple idea but one that actually feels like Oswego.
