Close Charlie’s Bar: Our Community Deserves Safety

We, the concerned members of Cross City, Dixie County, and surrounding communities, are calling for an immediate and thorough review of Charlie’s Bar by the Florida Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco and appropriate local officials.

A recent violent incident that began at or near this establishment has resulted in a tragic loss of life. This situation has deeply shaken our community. There are growing concerns about safety, supervision, and whether proper procedures were followed before, during, and after the incident.

This is not about spreading rumors or assigning guilt without investigation. It is about public safety and accountability.

We respectfully request:

• An immediate investigation into Charlie’s Bar and its operations

• A review of the establishment’s liquor license and compliance history

• A temporary suspension of operations pending the outcome of the investigation

• Stronger enforcement of safety policies to prevent further violence

Our community deserves to feel safe in local establishments. When repeated violent incidents occur in connection with the same location, it is the responsibility of regulatory authorities to step in and take action.

We are asking you to prioritize public safety and take the necessary steps to ensure that tragedies like this do not happen again.

Why is this important?

This is important because our community has experienced a devastating loss. No family should have to bury their loved one after a night out at a local establishment.

When violence becomes associated with a specific location, it affects more than just those directly involved — it impacts families, children, local businesses, and the overall sense of safety in our town.

Cross City is a small community. We should be able to gather, socialize, and support local businesses without fear that it could turn into tragedy. When there are repeated concerns about safety, they cannot be ignored.

Public safety must come before profit.

This petition is not about revenge. It is about accountability, prevention, and protecting lives moving forward. We are asking leaders to take this seriously so that no other family has to experience a loss like this again.

Our community deserves transparency. Our community deserves action. And most importantly, our community deserves safety.
