Trump is ramping up his militarized power grab, announcing a hostile federal takeover of our nation’s capital. He is seizing the city’s police department and deploying 800+ National Guard troops to descend upon the residents and punish anyone who disagrees with his MAGA agenda.
This is a brazen abuse of power—and it won’t stop at Washington, D.C. This is Trump’s plan for cities across the country. Trump intends to build a police state right out of an authoritarian playbook. And we have to stop him now before he replicates this in cities and states across the country.

It is illegal to use the American military against the American people—but that's exactly what Trump said he would do during his campaign, and it’s exactly what is happening now.
Trump aims to turn U.S. troops into his personal police force. But National Guard members signed up to serve their communities, not be political chess pieces for Trump. Any attempt to deploy the military domestically for civilian law enforcement endangers our service members, communities, and our freedoms.
From Los Angeles, to Portland, to Chicago, to Memphis, and beyond Trump is painting dystopian pictures of our cities, using obvious fearmongering to try to justify his blatant illegal overreach of militarizing our cities. He’s bulldozing state and local governments' autonomy, attempting to send the National Guard against the will of local officials. Enough is enough.
The truth is that Trump would rather do politically motivated stunts like send the National Guard to our cities than deliver on his promises of bringing down grocery prices and the cost of living. Instead of using his power to make our lives better, strengthen the economy and unite our country, he’s using it to enrich himself and his billionaire friends while seeking revenge against those who disagree with him.
Turning the military against the people is straight from the authoritarian playbook to exert control and squash dissent. We need Congress to intervene and stop this erosion of our fundamental rights and freedom—and we need to come together to make it clear that Americans will not be silent in the face of this fascist power grab.
