Declare a State of Emergency for Education & Allow Emergency Substitutes to Work!

CCSD and other major Nevada public school districts are experiencing major staff shortages. Superintendent Jara himself stated there are no less than 1,300 teacher shortages in CCSD as of August 2022. Teachers are being forced to sell their preps to cover for missing teachers because there are no substitutes to do it.

Governor Sisolak needs to declare a state of emergency for education in Nevada so that emergency substitutes can work. Emergency substitute licenses are only valid in a state of emergency. Sisolak has lowered the cost of standard substitute license applications to $100, which is a step in the right direction, but it’s NOT ENOUGH! License applications take on average 6 months to process. This does not solve the staff shortage we are facing RIGHT NOW!

By declaring a state of emergency right now, people who applied for an emergency substitute license in February of 2022 will be able to work ASAP. This will aid the staff shortage immediately, improve Nevada students’ educations, and release some of the intense burden our Nevada educators are facing.

Why is this important?

If you care about improving the education of students and improving the mental and physical well-being of Nevada educators please sign the petition to declare a state of emergency for education in Nevada.
