End AI Art at Pinecrest Cadence

We petition the administration of Pinecrest Academy Cadence to cease use of generative AI (artificial intelligence) inside Pinecrest Academy Cadence promotional material.

We, the undersigned, are concerned in regards to the administration’s use of generative AI, especially when promoting a highly rated school with multiple electives relating to the arts. We believe generative AI is wasteful, careless, and will ruin the formal imagery Pinecrest strives to achieve.  Along with the unprofessional look of flyers made with generative AI, there are also ethical concerns such as the high amount of water and electricity being wasted when entering prompts into these AI applications. Concerns of importing photos of students into generative AI have also been raised, too. Companies such as OpenAI may use these photos for training its AI models, which many students (such as athletes) did not consent to when photographed.

Why is this important?

This is important because the arts are a fundamental for children and teens. By handing the work to a machine, our creativity and even brain usage begins lowering (https://time.com/7295195/ai-chatgpt-google-learning-school/). Why is a school encouraging this behavior? When you ditch humans, you ditch intelligence, and students shouldn't be exposed to that. We shouldn't discourage our young artists from participating, and by removing AI, you give people a chance to grow.
