To: COUNCILMEMBER BRUNNER and other members of the Santa Cruz City Council.
End Discrimination Against POLYAMOROUS People!

I am writing you today in order to make you aware of an injustice which exists within the City of Santa Cruz with respect to discrimination against polyamorous people, people in open relationships, and those involved in other forms of consensual non-monogamy.
Why is this important?
As the law stands right now, if you are polyamorous and your employer finds out about it, they can FIRE you just for this - and you have no legal recourse. (There are many laws that will prevent you from being fired because of your sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, etc., but the courts have always ruled that polyamory and consensual non-monogamy are an entirely distinct matters, so these laws offer no protection for polyamorous people).
The same applies to housing issues. If you are polyamorous and your landlord discovers this, they can evict you, and none of the many fair housing laws will protect you.
We'd like to change this. We have managed to pass seven laws of this type. (Five of these have been in New England. One was passed in Oakland, CA last spring, and another one was passed in Berkeley, CA).
We are now working to pass a similar anti-discrimination ordinance in Santa Cruz.
In light of this ongoing injustice, as a current resident of Santa Cruz, California, the undersigned respectfully requests that you - and all other members of the Santa Cruz City Council -support the proposed local ordinance that would prohibit discrimination against polyamorous people, those in open relationships, and those involved in other forms of consensual non-monogamy - and vote in favor of it when it comes up for a vote. I further request that you use such influence as you legally have available to you to encourage all other members of the Santa Cruz City Council to vote in favor of this anti-discrimination ordinance.
