Fall River Public School policy on head lice

Please help support our children advocate to change the policy of head lice allowed in school!
Please contact our superintendent, Fall River, MA. This could be your child. Unfortunately, in Fall River, if there's live bugs in their hair they still allow them to go to school. Not fair to our children, families, and staff!!!

Why is this important?

Let’s protect our children, families, staff. School system states that it a MA “Law” NOT to send them home for the day to get treated. Children with live bugs are to remain in the class room then nurse addresses the issue with parent of the situation. So basically, where it’s at the prime of infestation it’s ok to remain in school even though it’s spreadable! CDC guidelines do not state children are mandated to stay in class, however, DISCOURAGE sending them home because not transferring diseases. The schools vary on their policies. So it’s up to our schools to make the right policy and as of right now I don’t feel that they put our children first and be considerate that it is a serious issue. It is a spreadable issue that is very hard to control. A child can be sent home because they have a fever. A child can be sent home because they throw up. A child is sent home every day for non-life-threatening situation. However  a spreadable head lice is not a valid reason the policy of the school states that they can stay in school with lice, head infestation and taking the risk of spreading to other children. Let’s stand for parents and advocate for our children! Signing this petition would help hundreds of children.
