Forgive student loan debt for doctors, nurses, and health professionals

In the next rescue/stimulus bill, Congress should include loan forgiveness for all health professionals because they are doing heroic and selfless service to our country. After World War II, Congress thanked our soldiers by passing the GI Bill so that they could get a college education. This would be the same.

Why is this important?

Health professionals carry crushing loads of student debt, from tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars. Now they are like soldiers in war, saving lives while risking their own and protecting the rest of us, and many have already died while doing their duty. Without the debt burden more would work in lower-paying specialties like family practice, or in underserved rural and urban areas. Society would benefit both in health and economically for many years to come, just as America benefited from the GI Bill.

Reasons for signing

  • Mental health professional will be dealing with the impacts of this long after COVID-19 pandemic passes. We will are also underpaid "medical professionals" who are unseen because the majority of us don't work in a clinic/hospital enviroment. Mental health matters!
  • Licensed Professional Counselor providing mental health treatment during COVID19 to many people in crisis
  • Being nurses and in healthcare our insurance and benefits do not align with what we endure sometimes and are exposed to both physical and mental. Health care workers give up more than just being frontline workers, we give up holidays weekends, hours are long and shift work is not usually family friendly. It has been like playing Russian roulette since the covid came. I can think of a 100 + reasons why all front line health care workers should be forgiven.
