Gumroad: Don't Profit from Our Pain

On December 27, a white man fueled by racist, colonial, and misogynistic hate started a shooting spree that murdered 5, injured several, and broke the hearts of people across the globe. Among the victims were indigenous activists, artists, parents, and small business owners. Several children lost parents or were placed in life threatening danger.

Before committing these acts, the shooter made a film about his plot. The shooter's friends and girlfriend have since begun to rent/sell the film on Gumroad's platform. They claim to be donating the profits from the film "to the victims", but have also stated in the media that they have "bills to pay".

We are asking Gumroad to remove the film War Horse from their platform. Making this film available puts people who have been profiled and targeted at risk. He has a following, and his following has grown. Do not continue to let fascist ideology and violent racist misogyny spread. Do not allow people to profit from the pain of our communities.

Why is this important?

There are many stories to tell about December 27, 2021. We can talk about the incredible humans that were lost, those who survived but must heal impossible wounds; and the way that the community rallied in the wake of tragedy. The one story that does not need to be spread or glorified is that of the shooter.
