Improve Education for Esthetician Students at Tricoci University

Esthetician students at Tricoci University (in Norwood Park) have experienced a very toxic educational environment. Students have voiced their concerns to upper management and they get disregarded. It has become very stressful and un-motivating to attend a school that does not care to serve and educate their students. It is especially frustrating to know that we are paying over $15,000 (some of us in debt) and have been learning nothing. In light of recent events, the advanced esthetician teacher has been pushed past her limit and is leaving the university. This is not the first time a esthetician teacher has left due to this. This is leaving night time students without a teacher for an unforeseeable amount of time. Consequently, tuition should be lowered/waived/ or compensations should be given. Classes will be too overcrowded and the Campus Director directly tells us to “go to the Vichy shower” while smiling so we can “study” How is a Vichy shower an ethical/efficient working environment? Management in this campus is very well aware there are two extra rooms for students to go in that are never occupied but they do not allow us to go in there due to “no teacher being able to watch us” Why not hire more esthetician teachers? This campus has lost its value and failed the mission that Tricoci stands behind: “Tricoci University of Beauty Culture believes success for our students and associates results from our people-centered culture. We are passionately committed to preparing students to become licensed professionals within the beauty industry.” It is unacceptable. If management cannot afford to make these changes, Tricoci as a whole needs to come together and give management on this campus what they need to become useful resources to their students.
Tricoci University needs to thoroughly look into this campus and speak to students to prove what this petition is stating. They need to provide teachers with the tools students require and not limit teachers; in order for us to become successful so that teachers stay long term and do not quit. We have had too many teachers come and go and we cannot blame them. It is difficult to accept that the teachers we started off with will not be staying with us to see us graduate because they, too, get fed up. We need more space for students to be able to learn and get hands on practice, and not be crowded into one room like a can of sardines. Learning was not supposed to stopped in essentials. Tricoci needs to get up to date with the esthetician industry. We do not need other beauty academies coming to our campus and showing us that they have “what we need” and offer us to attend their classes and pay out of pocket. What is the point of that? We should already have that offered here in school. That is what we are paying for. They are limiting our abilities to become successful estheticians.

Why is this important?

This is vital for all future estheticians. We cannot allow this toxic learning environment to further continue. For example, during bad winter weather in 2021: we were the only campus that did not close but every other campus in Chicago cared about their students’ safety ENOUGH to close their campus. We still had to come in. It was not until the second time there was bad weather that students had to send emails begging to close the campus due to our safety. If no one sent emails, then what? Would we have still stayed open? It’s not okay and we should not have to send emails in regards to situations like that.
To add on, how could students possibly be successful outside of this school, if we are not learning to begin with? What value will Tricoci hold if esthetician students graduate and inform other people who are interested in becoming one; that it is not worth it? We cannot “learn” just to pass, we need to learn in order to share skin success with the world. We were passionate students when we started and the motivation is being lost as the days pass because of how we are being treated. We want to be knowledgeable and successful estheticians. It is time for a change and we will let our voices be heard.

How it will be delivered

Student estheticians at Tricoci University will deliver this petition through not making payments until improvements are made on this campus for the better of student estheticians.
